Quiroga Duo

Formed in 2014 by Laura Balboa (violin) and Manuel López Jorge (piano), the Quiroga Duo is a vibrant young up-and-coming group based in London. Its two members, former students of the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität in Vienna, Austria, and the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, are both soloists with notable performing careers and prize-winners at several competitions. The duo is named in honour to the great Galician violinist-composer Manuel Quiroga (1892-1961).
Laura and Manuel started performing together in 2006, as founding members of the ‘Trio Opus 40’. The trio had a very successful career in Spain, performing in various cities including Madrid (Auditorio Manuel de Falla), and also won the First Prize at III Sonidos del Arlanza Chamber Music Competition in 2007. Quiroga Duo, who is firmly establishing its place in the musical scene in the UK, has performed in venues such as St James’s Piccadilly and Royal Albert Hall-Elgar Room (London), Shulman Auditorium (Oxford University), the Stowmarket Music Society, Louth Concert Society, and Styriarte Festival (Graz, Austria). Future engagements include concerts for the Edinburgh Society of Musicians and at the Wolfson College (University of Cambridge).
Since November 2015, the Quiroga Duo is part of the prestigious ChamberStudio Scheme at King’s Place in London, which provides wonderful opportunities for young groups to work with some of the finest musicians around today.
