Manuel López Jorge

Born in Santiago de Compostela and currently based in London, Manuel is a successful inter-disciplinary musician, very active both as a concert pianist, composer and researcher. A prizewinner in several competitions, he has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in London including St. Martin-in-the-Fields and Steinway Hall. His success in the 2011 edition of Jaques Samuel Pianos Competition led him to perform a solo piano recital at St. James-Piccadilly the following year. Manuel has also performed as a soloist with Trinity Laban Sinfonia and conductor Andrew Sherwood.

A very active chamber musician, he performs regularly with different ensembles including duo, trio, quartet and vocal accompaniment, and is first prize winner of both Leonard Smith Duo Competition and Cavatina Chamber Music Competition. He has performed in different cities from Spain, England, Scotland, Ireland and Germany, and in prestigious venues such as Cheltenham Town Hall and Lincoln Drill Hall. Manuel is a former member of the successful Golden Piano Trio, an exciting up-and-coming ensemble who won 1st prize at the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition 2010. The trio enjoys a busy performing schedule that brought them to play at important venues such as Teatro Colón, A Coruña (Spain). Recently, Manuel joined violinist Mª Victoria Jericó to form the Duo Stellae, a new ensemble with increasing projection that was invited to perform in PAM 14' , an important festival in Spain.

As a composer, his works are in increasing demand for performance and stand out for their variety of emotional frameworks, mixing extreme dramatism with deep lyricism, a style that comes from his extensive use of pre-compositional planning in the form of an imagery programme. His music has been performed by first class ensembles such as Fidelio TrioDuo FinisterraeAlma DuoAusten Piano Trio and Trinity Laban SCOW Orchestra. Upcoming commissions include premieres in Mexico D. F. and London.

A student at TrinityLaban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Manuel is currently pursuing a PhD degree working on a thesis entitled Musical Imagery and Composition under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Clarke and composer Stephen Montague. He obtained a Masters Degree in piano performance at Trinity Laban in the class of Deniz Gelenbe, and a first class Bachelor Degree in piano performance in Spain. Manuel has been a student of the renowed Spanish composer Antón García-Abril.
